Dr. Douglas’ love for children began in high school as a volunteer at Texas Children’s Hospital. It was there that she discovered her passion for mental health through the stories of the children hospitalized with serious medical conditions. At Prairie View A&M University, she was admitted to the charter class of the Undergraduate Medical Academy and the Early Medical School Acceptance Program. She was granted a full scholarship to medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX.
Her decision to pursue psychiatry was solidified during medical missions trips to Ghana and Costa Rica where she treated rural populations and recognized mental health disparities first hand. Upon completing medical school, she was matched into adult and child psychiatry residency and fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. During her training, she was the Chief Resident of the outpatient clinics and was a Diversity Leadership Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association. She is board certified in adult and child psychiatry.
Dr. Douglas’ philosophy as a psychiatrist is to listen intently, plan together, and encourage throughout. She is patient centered and believes in providing the safe and effective treatment interventions. Her greatest joy is in seeing her patients overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams.
